CALPORTLAND CONSTRUCTION WINS NATIONAL AWARDS FOR QUALITY IN ASPHALT PAVING and OPERATIONS

January 25, 2011: Lanham, MD - The National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA) announced today that CalPortland Construction of Santa Maria, CA has won a 2011 Quality in Construction Award for excellence in construction of an asphalt pavement. The company received its award at a special ceremony during the association’s 57th Annual Meeting in Palm Desert, Calif.

The Quality in Construction Award recognizes asphalt pavements of excellence. “NAPA selects the recipients of its paving awards using a known set of standards that have been shown to give a good result,” commented Kim Snyder, 2011 Chairman of the NAPA Board of Directors. “This award demonstrates the high quality of work that CalPortland Construction is achieving.” CalPortland Construction won the award for its work on Route 101 in San Luis Obispo County from milepost 7.8 to 16.4. Prior to paving, the company reviewed the project plans for constructability and worked with the California Department of Transportation to resolve issues. The company safely produced a smooth asphalt pavement with minimal disruption to the traveling public.

Danny Devereaux, Vice President/General Manager of CalPortland Construction commented, “this recognition demonstrates the quality, service and pride that our entire team strives to accomplish every day. Congratulations to our plant personnel, quality control group, transportation drivers, construction crews and the rest of the team that were involved with this project”. CalPortland Construction was also awarded two NAPA Diamond Achievement Commendations for Excellence in Plantsite Operatons for the Garey and the Paso Robles asphalt plants at the meeting. The Diamond Achievement Awards demonstrates CalPortland’s commitment to excellence and leadership for spreading excellence in asphalt operations among its facilities on the Central Coast of California.

The National Asphalt Pavement Association (U.S) represents the interests of the asphalt pavement material producer/ contractor on the national level with government agencies and other national trade and business organizations. NAPA supports an active research program designed to improve the quality of asphalt pavements and paving techniques used in the construction of roads, streets, highways, parking lots, airports, and environmental and recreational facilities.
