CalPortland Becomes a Save Energy Now LEADER in Partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy

Glendora, CA (June 21, 2010) - CalPortland Company has made an aggressive pledge to reduce its energy intensity by 25% in ten years by becoming a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Save Energy Now LEADER. Through this program, CalPortland will partner with the DOE in an effort to improve efficiency throughout the company. The DOE will provide resources and tools to assist the company in meeting these goals. CalPortland joins Alcoa, Eastman Chemical Company, Lufkin Industries and Raytheon Company in improving their energy efficiency as Save Energy Now Leaders. CalPortland is the first company in the cement, ready mix, aggregate and asphalt industries to take this pledge.

Save Energy Now LEADER Companies are setting ambitious energy reduction targets that will create demand for energy efficient manufacturing technology today and into the future. “Supporting the development of the latest industrial technologies plays an important role in helping U.S. industry to lead the world in energy efficiency and productivity,” said DOE Secretary Steven Chu. “Working together with American manufacturing and IT industries, we will be able to create new jobs, reduce industrial energy use and limit damaging greenhouse gas emissions.”

CalPortland established its energy management program in 2003 and since that time has significantly reduced energy consumption, lowered emissions and promoted the benefits of energy efficiency to various manufacturing industries throughout the U.S. The program includes employees from the CEO to front line employees at all facilities.
